it was the cause of the battle of the somme which was the bloodiest first day in British history, the battle of verdun was going badly for the allies so Haig decided to divert the Gemans and releive the pressure on verdun, which it did but created lot of casulaties on the first day, the worst in history

The battle of Verdun was simply a German derived strategy to bleed the French army dry. Attrition, attrition, attrition. The German leadership knew that the French would never break at Verdun so more and more troops were fed into the meat grinder. Of course German losses were horrendous too.

The 1916 Battle of Verdun took place during World War I. Many historians see this battle as the bloodiest battle in world history. If you can see the photos and hear the stories from this battle, you can understand just how bad World War I was. There was a high amount of causalities and in the end, not that much was even accomplished.

it set back the German troops to wear they started because France killed many of their soldiers and the German soldiers wouldn't even go out of their tents to fight. therefore the war ended in December 1916 and Germany thought this war was going to be an easy defeat but it is known to be one of the lengthiest battles [11 months] and Germany lost.

The First Battle of the Marne stopped the German advance through France and prevented them from capturing Paris. It more or less stabilized the lines that led to the trench warfare that characterized the war on the Western Front. French reinforcements reached the front by rail, trolley, trucks, and even taxi cabs, shifting the momentum to the French defense.
