Flash floods and floods clean out the rivers and deposit silt along river banks, making great farming lands because farmers do not have to manually water their crops. Floods keep the elevation of a land mass above sea level. If the land mass was below sea level, water would be constantly filling up the land and causing devastation. Floods act as nature's own sewage system. In the past many civilizations such as Egypt would not have survived without floods. Farming communities in the past and present relied on regular flooding to water their crops due to the lack of machines and man power. Agricultural land that requires flooding is called floodplains.
