The American War Library appears to be a phishing scam. I sent them an e-mail recently:

I would like more information on who/what you are. I see the website

>is a commercial site. How are you funded? How are you organized

>(corporate, non-profit, volunteer agency, etc)? I didn't see anything

>on the web page that covered these items and who is behind the effort.

The reply is below:

1. Be advised that found military items remain the official property of the United States Government and the Department of Defense as official custodian.

2. Found military items should not be retained by the finder who is seeking, for whatever reason, to make personal contact with the GI who lost the item, or a member of the GI's family. By law found military items must be mailed immediately to:

Secretary of Defense

Room 3E880

The Pentagon

Washington DC 20301

3. The Dept of Defense has many resources at its disposal to return lost items.

4. The finder should include a letter (or use the template below) describing the place and circumstances in which the item was found, and contact information for DoD investigators, or the GI, or his/her family

members:

WHERE WAS THE ITEM FOUND______________________________

They claim they will provide a copy of Form 201 if I sent a DD-214, but there is no information on a Form 201 that is not already on the DD-214.

You are correct it is a scam. Phil Coleman (he uses many names) runs it. He suckers vets into sending him their DD214 then charges others to use his bulletin board. He is slick for sure and has been around for a long time. He even got a book published called "cannon fodder". which is full of bull.
