The Save Our Sons Movement was a group formed by Jean McClean, Irene Miller, Joanna Madaine-Cross, Jane Coxsedge and Christina Cathie in 1965. They made public protests towards conscription as they believed men shouldn't be sent to an 'unjust' war against their will. Some tactics they used to get their message across were:
- Protesting in silence
- Making posters
- Asking questions at their opened teachings about how people knew the difference between a just and an unjust wars
- Saw the Trade Unions
- Went to the newspapers and placed ads in the local ones
- Asked for money for fund raisers
- Went to the docks and talked to the men on the ships about their cause and if they could donate money to it
- Handed out leaflets in shopping malls
- Went door knocking
- Protesting constantly
- Getting their newsletter out
- Attending events like the Melbourne Cup wearing dresses with capes that had messages against conscription on the back
It was mainly a women's group but any person can join, not just women whose sons were being sent to war.
