The difference between the Holocaust and American slavery is that the holocaust was an attempt to exterminate an entire race of people. Slaves were brought to America to make a profit or to work for an owner. Because of this difference it is widely mistaken that the amount of people killed in the holocaust was greater than that of slavery. Most people would agree that the number of Jewish people killed during the holocaust comes to a total of 6 million with another 5 million killed for the aid or harboring of a Jew. There were roughly 30 to 40 million slaves killed before ever reaching America. That's not including the number of slaves that were killed after reaching America. Only 10 to 15 million slaves made the journey.
Prisoners of war were combatants, the victims of the Holocaust were not, the lines blur when talking about Soviet prisoners of war as they were treated (almost) as badly as the victims of the Holocaust.
To amplify somewhat: If an American soldier was a German prisoner of war - and the Germans were not known for great hospitality when it came to their American prisoners of war - they still had a 95 to 98% chance of surviving POW camp. A concentration camp inmate had, at best, a 10-12% chance of surviving.
In Japanese prisoner of war camps, it was a different story. In the worst camps, 70% of American troops imprisoned by the Japanese died.
The Holocaust would not have happened were it not for the war. The war not only promoted the conditions to produce the Holocaust, but it also provided a shroud to cover the actions produced in the Holocaust.
Death marches were the marching of inmates from one concentration camp to another.
* Yes. The Nazis treated the Jews as a race, not a religion, so many of the victims of the Holocaust, especially from Western and Central Europe, were not practicising Jews. * The Nazis also slaughtered Soviet 'political commissars' whom they took prisoners. These were Marxist-Leninists (Communists). The Nazis also killed other Soviet prisoners of war.
world war is war between more then 2 countrys and war is between only 2
The holocaust was during World War 2
During the Holocaust, the Nazis targeted seven major groups: Jews, Romas (gypsies), homosexuals, Slavs, mentally and physically handicapped, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Soviet Prisoners of war.
Jews, prisoners of war, gypsies, homosexuals, people with disabilities, and Jehovah's witnesses
People commonly trapped in the holocaust were Jews. Other numbers of people were, gypsy familys, homosexuals, the disabled, soviet prisoners of war...
They were set free, just like the rest of the Holocaust survivors that made it out of the war.
an indication is the survival rate; for POW camps (for western POWs) the survival rate was about 96%, for the Holocaust the survival rate was less than 4%.
The main triggers were; the start of the war in the Soviet Union, the vast numbers of prisoners and the lack of food.
Hermann Langbein has written: 'Against All Hope (History & Politics)' 'Menschen in Auschwitz' -- subject(s): Auschwitz (Concentration camp), German Prisoners and prisons, Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945), Prisoners and prisons, German, War criminals, World War, 1939-1945 'People in Auschwitz' -- subject(s): Auschwitz (Concentration camp), German Prisoners and prisons, Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945), Prisoners and prisons, German, World War, 1939-1945
Yes, a few awkward British and American prisoners of war ended up in Auschwitz, for example.
The Holocaust would not have happened were it not for the war. The war not only promoted the conditions to produce the Holocaust, but it also provided a shroud to cover the actions produced in the Holocaust.
There is no link between the two, unless you are confusing the Holocaust with World War 2.
The Holocaust is not related to the war in Darfur. One can find similarities between any events in history, it does not make them related.
