In the interwar period, the inflation rate exploded in Germany causing the currency to be effectively worthless. A reichsbankenote from that era has no value as currency. However as a collector item, depending on the quality of the bill, can be commonly sold for around $10.
The hyperinflation in 1923 plunged Germany into even deeper financial turmoil as the DM (deutschmark) became even more worthless so the money that the people had was vastly reduced in value. I think that in 1923, Germany refused to pay the reparations but I don't know what happened after that...
As of recent (July, 2013) I have seen them usually priced around 1,200 - 2,000 GBP
