The three major problems that persisted during the reigns of both James I and Charles the first mainly were connected with Parliament. 1. Both James I and Charles I had problems with Parliament. Neither accepted the independent stance of Parliament and were not willing to concede any power . 2. Financial problems existed. Neither James nor his son were good money managers. Their royal allowances were never enough, thus creating another issue with Parliament. 3. The third issue was religious intolerance and the outbreak of the Thirty Years War. Parliament failed to provide sufficient funds for military needs, and opposed a match between the Prince of Wales and the catholic Infanta, instead wanting a match with protestant royalty.
