Many women had to balance working outside the home with running a home and caring for their children.

Food Problems:

The price of food double during the war and some items like margarine, potatoes, meat, sugar and tea, became very scarce.

Bread winner dying:

Most women had to deal with the main bread winner (the man of the household) going of to war, but some had to also cope with the news that they had died in action. This would cause many problems for the women before and after the war; as they would have to provide everything for their families.
