While Rhineland was still under German jurisdiction, they were not permitted to have military personnel in this area. The first thing Hitler did was to reoccupy the Rhineland region. He went on to take over Austria, Czechoslovakia, and finally Poland all before the end of 1939.

Adolf Hitler was a German politician born in 1889 in Austria. A decorated veteran of World War I, he was chancellor of Germany from 1933 and dictator from 1934 until his death in 1945. His aim was to establish a 'New Order" in continental Europe to be governed by Nazi Germany, and to expand German influence by seizing territory from neighboring countries. His army invaded Poland in 1939, resulting in the start of World War II. Before the war ended, he had implemented anti-Semitic policies and racially motivated ideology resulting in the death of approximately six million Jews and other people deemed to be racially inferior to his followers.
