There were a few things hat the populist party wanted. The items that the party wanted were, a secret ballot, an election for senators, an income tax, to oppose legislature votes, free coinage of silver, farmers to get the money back that they paid on loans, and the railroad system, telephone system, and telegraph system to be owned by the public.

The People's Party, also known as the Populists, advocated the following:

- steamship lines and telephone and telegraph systems

- the free and unlimited coinage of silver

- the abolition of national banks

- a system of graduated income tax

- direct election of United States Senators

The People's Party was a short lived political party established in 1891. They formed when the Knights of Labor and Farmers' Alliance joined forces. The Populists represented the common folk, primarily the farmers. They were against the interests of railroads, bankers, processers, corporations, and the politicians in agreemet with such interests.
