Charles De Gaulle was the French Free Forces General in England. He had managed to escape the Battle of Dunkirk. He led his French Forces toward Paris after the Normandy Invasion. He claimed credit for saving and liberating Paris when in reality is was the Parisians who saved their own city. He eventually became the president of France for many years. See link below.
