World War 1 was a horrible time. men had to go and fight,miles away from their families. Loads of people died.

The British government was encouraging men to enlist for war by putting up posters therefore most of the people who signed in for the war were thinking that the war would be fun, where will be no much fighting, more so it will be really safe and most probably it will end by Christmas.

In reality the first world war was horrific. First of all the war went very slow because most of the times soldiers spent in trenches which caused trench foot because soldiers kept their feet wet for a long time. Men also suffered from freezing winters and starvation because the food was often eaten by rats. There were many diseases going around so it was more likable to die from the disease then from the fighting.

Soldiers had to be in good physical condition because they always had to have their full kit on them and more so it wasn't easy to cross the no man's land.

This was the first war in which was involved so many countries and . millions of people became victims of the war. A big amount of people were killed by influenza pandemic which appeared right after the war. Political system in Russia was replaced because of the first world war, World map for the first time very strongly changed: new states and new boundaries appeared.A.K.A. it sucked.

It was horrible. In the trenches you had flies, maggots, lice, everything horrible. there was rotting flesh everywhere plus all the blood from the people who have been shot. ---- Really terrifying. The kind of thing that haunts you for the rest of your days, wakes you up screaming and sobbing in the middle of the night 50 years later and sends you diving under the table every time a door slams. Many courageous men were reduced to quivering wrecks. It was so bad that many men shot off their fingers and put dirty coins in their wounds to infect them so that they could get a Blighty and go back home for a while. All the stuff about it being noble and right was a pile of maggot-infested crap. It was cold, wet and muddy-sometimes the water came up to your waist. And most of all, it was very, very dangerous. Absolutely lethal. ----

In the beginning of WWI the battles were highly Mobile when Germany invaded France, however they became a very immobile Trench warfare after there were too many losses in the beginning of WWI. Defence weapons out calibred offensive weapon's, so there was little advance by either side.
