The "war" after World War II was the mainly covert conflict called the Cold War. The first major war included in that conflict (communists vs anti-communists) was the Korean War(1950-1953).

The Cold War was only a name given to the standoff between the United Soviet Socialist Republic (U.S.S.R/Russia) and the US. The Soviets attempted to foster and support Communist governments worldwide, while the US and its allies tried to prevent this. No battles were fought directly and the only casualties were described as 'accidents'.
