Answer There were several. 1 Poisonous gas was dangerous to handle. 2 Gas could not be controlled when applied. A wind could bring it back on your own troops. 3 After gas has lifted, sometimes pockets could be found in low-lying areas. 4 Protective equipment was expensive and cumbersome and interferred with the soldier's work.
