A rifleman was the basic American foot soldier in WWII. His job was to seek out and come to grips with the enemy and destroy him when on offense, and to resist and deny the enemy his objectives when defending. He had to be proficient with the entire light infantry arsenal, of shoulder arms, side arms, and crew served weapons, including the bazooka and machine guns.
