Most of the killings took place in: * Mass open air shootings (especially in the Soviet Union) * Death camps, located mainly in Poland, such as Auschwitz, Treblinka, Majdanek, Sobibor, Belzec and Chelmno. In addition, especially in Poland, Jews were herded into ghettoes and given insufficient food and not allowed medication. Many died of stavation and disease. Two of Germany's allies, Croatia and Romania, carried out their own holocausts.
