The purpose of the Zimmerman Telegram was to get Mexico to attack the U.S. The German man Alfred Zimmerman sent the telegram January 19, 1917. The telegraph said that id they attacked the U.S. then they would help them get back the territory America stole from them (Texas, Arizona, New Mexico) They declined but America was angry so they joined the war against the Germans. Learned this in Social Studies :)
