1923 The sinking of the Lusitania... british- American civilian cruise ship was sunk off the coast of Ireland, by a German"U-boat" or submarine. Bigger and older than the titanic, about 2,000 people died, and about 128 Americans died. Yes, Germany posted a warning to Americans about the u-boats, and them sinking any British cargo ships, but this was not a car go ship. This is one of the many reasons America joined the world war.

well, there's the start August 1914, the end November 11 1918. how might you choose 8 intervening dates I am not sure. The entry of the US in 1917, the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915 the battles of the Somme, Tannenberg, Gumbinnen, Gaza, Galippoli, Cambrai, Vimy Ridge, Ypres, the Marne....
