Submarines. Both sides had them, but only the South ever deployed one.

Gas filled observation balloons. Both sides deployed them.

Gatling Gun - The north had it and it was the forerunner to the modern machine gun.

Revolving Turret on ships. The North had it on the Monitor and installed very heavy cannon into it. This was the first time you didn't have to turn a ship to aim its guns.

Repeating Rifles - Mostly the North got them but not until half way through the Civil War because the War Department felt that this would make soldiers waster ammo. Lincoln ordered them in 1863.

These are really only to name a few....

1) Conoidal Bullets, which made gunfire more accurate at greater ranges.

2) The Telegraph, which was invented only just before the war. It allowed generals to learn the result of battles almost immediately, and overall allowed for long range communication.

3) Balloons, well Aerial Balloons. These were used mainly for reconnaissance and observation.

4) Ironclads, which were armor plated steamships. These were made for when troops needed to storm beaches or shores guarded by artillery.
