There were many political and economic "weapons" of the Cold War. One of the biggest economic "weapons" was trade barriers. Closing your borders to trade from Another Country was crucial in the Cold War. Countries were unable to export and import needed supplies, thus were more susceptible to whoever wanted something from them wanted.
The cold war started in 1945 after the World War II. The cold war was between Russia and some of the western countries. The existence of the nuclear weapons is what led to the development of the Cold war.
Anytime that Democracy and Communism clashed, it was a confrontation. Some were done in secret, and some were highly visible. Some used only words, and some used weapons. Some were bloodless, and some were bloody. The Berlin Airlift, Cuban Missile Crisis, Korean conflict, and the wars in Vietnam, Nicaragua, and Afghanistan were visible example of Cold War confrontations.
The Atomic Age created the cold war. With nuclear weapons, total wars (such as WW2) could no longer be fought. Only limited wars such as the Korean War and Vietnam Wars could be fought. Limited to only CONVENTIONAL weapons (Non-nuclear).
You must be reffering to the Cold War. Some were, some weren't. They were always afraid of losing the competition because the Soviets would then have greater power, but I don't think many Americans feared the Soviet Union.
Common civil war weapons can be divided into individual weapons and heavy weapons. These two classes can again be divided into different classes, such as: edged weapons, handguns, rifles and grenades (all individual weapons), and rapid fire weapons and artillery (heavy weapons).
