it didnt effect some peasents as they didnt live close to where The Battle of Hastings happened. they would still have lived in the same houses and carried out the same jobs, farming ect. Due to the Norman conquest the language also changed so many Saxons started to call their children Norman names. Also, due to William's sucsess he ordered the Domesday book to go around, this meant that poor peasents had to tell the truth about their live stock or else they would have been killed this also lead to them having to pay high taxes which they couldn't afford. motte and bailey castles were starting to be build. these were week but did the job of housing Williams fighters. he also had cathedrals built for him. this is also the time that the harrowing of the north took place.

The effect was rather complex. As one might expect in a war, France was left in a devastated state due to civilians, property and crops being deliberately destroyed in some areas. Though there was no actual official ending to the war, Henry VI had gone mad and competing noble factions fell out about both past and future policy. This led to the War of the Roses, which kept English armed forces occupied in conducting a civil war in England.
