God, glory, and gold were the three basic things that Europeans were looking for. They looked for lost Christian colonies, and for people to convert to Christianity. Gold was very expensive, as it always has been, and was sought after. Most explorers also wanted the glory from discovering new things. If you think about it, when Christopher Columbus discovered America, his name went down in history forever. This was something that most explorers wanted. I hope this is a help!
