Washington DC would have been totally surrounded by rebel states.

Another answer - The state above DC is not a Confedreate state. Teh new stsate that Licnon just 'made' at his own will and unlawfully, was West Virginia, and is not considered a Confederate state - or a lawful state. NO President has that kind of power to do. DC IS Southern land DONATED to the North for their capital that was suppose to be SHARED by both nations, North and South. The TWO nations that the Founders established from the very beginning was NEVER TO BE FORCED INTO ONE HUGE NATION UNDER ONE HUGE "RULING" POWER IN DC. But Lincoln did that too in his 1861 coup on DC - Lincoln REPLACED EVERYTHING THE FOUNDERS established and PUT HIS OWN SYSTEM INTO PLACE. In his time, Lincoln was called the "REPLACER PRESIDENT" as he replaced EVERYTHING the Founders established. No one has been allowed to know our TRUE history since 1865 - and the DC "governmnet" made sure the truth stayed hidden.

Maryland DID vote to secede, but the vote was held up by armed Lincoln gangs sent to stop the vote. However they still counted the votes behind closed doors out of sight of the Yankee guards, and they DID vote to secede. They claim the center star of the CSA Battle Flag. Of course you are fed fabricated 'history' in the DC Govt schools and they teach that Maryland never seceded. But they actually did. A Maryland historian wrote that in one of his historic writes. DC schools also told you to believe that the South surrendered, but they never did and are still thier own sovereign nation today, only under UNLAWFUL UN-CONSTITUTIONAL DC FEDERAL OCCUPATION ! The Lincoln policy of "invade and occupy" continues to this day; the CSA (Confederate States of America) was the very first nation the US invaded and occupied. They have done so to now over 190 countries and still continue to do so. The torture policy of prisoners is also from Lincoln. The Lincoln you are taugth about in the govt schools is NOT anything like the REAL Lincoln. Lincoln was a dedicated Communist, he also establsihed direct taxes on everything he could think of, the IRS, the military draft that the Founders forbade, pushed for National banks and was the first accutal tyrant Dictator in office. He is NOT the "hero" the Communist Elite have made of him. Read some REAL TRUE hisotry books like "Red Republicans and Lincoln's Marxists" and "Lincoln's Marxists" and "The South Was Right" and "The REAL Lincoln" and "War Crimes Against Southern Civilians" written by those who lived it and compiles by Walter Brian Cisco. "Everything You Were Told About the Civil War Was Wrong" by Seabrook and there are a ton more if you really want the real truth. The Truth is more exciting so other then being shocked on how much DC has been lying to us all since 1865, you'd find TRUE history quite a read !

They seceded from the USA, because they knew that Lincoln would not allow any new slavestates. They began to take steps to secede from the Union.

What if virginia had not seceded from the union in 1861?

Robert E. Lee would have accepted Lincoln's offer of supreme command of the Union armies, and the war would have been over in weeks.

Why was Maryland considered the most important border state?

Because it largely surrounded Washington DC. Virginia had already seceded. If Maryland did the same. the Capital would have been isolated inside Confederate territory. Maryland was a deeply divided state. There had been riots in Baltimore. Later, it would be shown that Lincoln's assassination had been plotted in a Maryland boarding-house. That is why Lincoln took drastic steps, arresting the pro-Southern leaders of the Maryland government, suspending Habeas Corpus as he did so. But the main task was accomplished. Maryland stayed in the Union.

How might the American civil war have been different if kentuckymaryland and Missouri had seseded?

If Kentucky, Maryland, and Missouri had seceded from the Union, the American Civil War would have probably been won by the South. With the addition of these three states, the South may have had the man power to win the war.

Which four border states remained loyal by the Union?

That would be: Maryland Delaware Kentucky Missouri West Virginia also was a member of the Union that allowed slavery. However, it was one of two new states formed during the Civil War, and is probably not the "correct" answer for this one. West Virginia Seceded from Virginia when Virginia seceded from the Union. Nevada was the other state formed during the Civil War. It separated from Utah Territory, and became a state on October 31, 1864 (8 days before the federal election) in order to ensure President Lincoln's victory.

What were the advantages to the Confederacy if the Border States seceded in the US Civil War?

The advantages that the Confederacy would have gained if the Border states had seceded would have changed the US Civil War immensely. Excluding Delaware, the slave Border states of Missouri, Kentucky and Maryland would have added 45% to the white population and military manpower the South. The South's industrial base would have increased by 80%. And, very importantly, Washington DC would have been surrounded by two Confederate states, forcing the abandonment of the Union capitol. Also the use of the Tennessee and Cumberland rivers by the Union would have vanished.

What if Texas had not seceded from the union?

It would have been an isolated state, surrounded by the Confederacy. It could not have been kept supplied by Washington.

Why was Maryland so important to the union cause?

It would later become their capital

Why were some states allowed to continue slavery?

Your question is unclear, but I will answer it to the best of my ability. If your talking about during the Civil War, it is because Lincoln wanted to preserve the Union. He would have enslaved every single African American if it meant preserving the union. The Proclamation he made only freed black men in the seceded states, in which he had no power to do so. He did not ban slavery in border states like Maryland because he needed them. Maryland was close to Richmond, the Confederate capital.
