During World War II, Belgium entered the war in May of 1940 as a result of being invaded by Germany. Although its European homeland was occupied by Germany until late 1944 and early 1945, the Belgian leadership remained in the fight from a distance until the Allies liberated Europe.

yes there were very much involved. At the outbreak of ww1 the German plan was to attack through Belgium, defeat France, then turn their army to face the huge Russian army in the east. The German armies swung through Belgium and the Belgian army stood little chance against 1.5 million men of the German army. They did provide time when the forts of Liege were besieged and slowed the German advance. The German army pushed through Belgium and shoved the allied armies deep into France. The French and British soon counter-attacked and defeated the over-streched German army. A chunk of the Belgian army was able to get evacuated and served on the Western Front until the end of the war. The Germans occuied almost all of Belgian during the war.
