Originally known as Buckingham House was first a large townhouse built for the Duke of Buckingham in 1703. During the 19th century it was enlarged with the construction of three wings around a central courtyard. The last major structural additions were made in 1913

Buckingham Palace became the London residence of the British monarch on the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837.

So from the beginning to the final construction took 210 years

They started building the actual Palace in 1662 and in 1682 the King Louis XIV and Queen (Madame de Maintenon, his second wife) and their whole court moved in. The Palace was officially never finished, since Louis XIV had a lot more construction planned, but that never happened.
