The first US built tank was a copy of the French Renault FT-17 or Model 1917. Less than 1,000 were ordered and built in the US in 1918. The M1917 that was constructed in the US under license, was called the "Six Ton Tank" M1917.

How do you know that the tank was made in Britain and why do you need to know? BecauseI know they made it in World War 1 and for a history class. The first tank was made and used by England/Great Britain in 1915 during World War I. The tanks at that time actually had no weapons on them. They were solely used to carry soldiers where no other vehicles could go.
the German maus tank is the biggest tank of world war 2 even though only 2 were ever made but there is a bigger tank that was never made but had plans to be made it was the p. 1000 ratte tank and even bigger the p. 1500 monster tank.

The Sherman Tank and other tanks were made during the war from 1940 (aid to Britain) to 1945. They were all improvements on the first battle tanks made by the Brits in World War 1. See link below for a great explanation of the history of the tank.
