VE - victory Europe May 7 and 8, 1945 when the Allies accepted unconditional surrender of the German forces. The official signing of surrender took place in Reims, France on the 7th and Berlin on 8th.

VJ - victory Japan August 15, 1945 although the formal ceremony took place Sept. 2, 1945 in Tokyo.
