Skynet was supposed to take over the world on August 29 1997, but Judgement Day was delayed (delayed, not averted) by Sarah and John Connor. Judgement Day officially occured in the movies in July 2003.

Judgement Day was also supposed to occur on April 21 2011 in Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. This, however, is an alternate timeline to the movies, and is not usually counted.
