it started when the prince of Austria, Franz Ferdinand got assassinated by the Surbs in Sarjevoin people
Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian throne, was killed by Gavrilo Princip in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914. Austria-Hungary gave an ultimatum to Serbia, blaming them for the assassination. The Kaiser in Germany promised to support Austria-Hungary. With that promise in their pocket Austria Hungary quickly moved toward war including ignoring Serbia's eleventh hour acceptance of most of their demands.
Austro-Hungarian Empire declared war on Serbia on July 28 and proceeded to bombard Belgrade on July 29. On July 30, Austria-Hungary and Russia both ordered general mobilization of their armies. Germany demanded that Russia stop mobilizing, and Russia's refusal led to Germany's declaration of war on Russia. Russia declared war on Germany and Austria Hungary followed by France's DOW on them in keeping with their treaty with Russia. Britain declared war when Germany violated Belgium's neutrality in order to attack France.so that's why in the 11th of the 11th month in 11:00 in the morning some people pray and we wear poppys to remember people who died in World War 1
it started because an Austrian arch duke was assassinated in Serbia. So Austria declared war on Serbia. Then Russia backed up Serbia. Germany backed up Austria. France backed up Russia. And Britain came into the war when Germany crossed through neutral Belgium to flank the French. So you could say it started i n Serbia
A large and complex chain of events going back decades if not longer influenced the beginning of the First World War, but the stated reason was the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian throne, in Sarajevo. Sarajevo was then part of Austria-Hungary; and is now part of Bosnia-and-Herzegovina.
