The battle took place on the Southern side of Lake Champlain, on July 8, 1758. At that time the fort was called Fort Carillon. An attacking British and Colonial Army of 12,000 men, led by General Abercrombie was decisively defeated by the French and Canadian garrison of 3,000 troops, led by French General Marquis Louis de Montcalm, suffering 464 dead and 1,1117 wounded. The French & Canadian losses were about 400 killed and wounded.
