The Spitfire and its carrier versions also operated in the Far East. The seafires serving with the RN task force 57 which was entireley independent of Admiral Halseys 5th Fleet.

Production, initially at Woolston in Southampton, was dispersed after German bombing destroyed the factory. A purpose built factory was also built at Castle Bromwich near Birmingham.
