The two sides that fought in the Civil War were called The Union and the Confederacy.

The Union was primarily located in the Northeast United States and wanted to keep the Southern states in the Union. Later in the war they would support the emancipation of the slaves

The Confederacy was located in the South and support secession from the Union and the continuation of slavery.
