The war did not end as a result of a treaty between the major combatants. Germany unconditionally surrendered its remaining forces to the Allies on May 8, 1945. Japan agreed to surrender on August 15, 1945, and the signing of the agreement was on September 2, 1945, aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.
There was much later a treaty with the other countries allied with Germany. At the Paris Peace Conference, treaties were concluded on February 10, 1947 with Italy, Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, and Romania.
Similarly, the Treaty of San Francisco was signed between the Allies and Japan in 1951, officially concluding peace.
