Bell Helicopter was created in 1935.
Igor Sikorski was an aircraft designer in Russia. But he came to the US and began to build helicopters. Many of his helicopter designs were used in the military. In 1943, Larry Bell who owned Bell Aerospace was convinced of a helicopter design after seeing a remote controlled model built and flown by Arthur Young. Bell set-up a design shop in Garden Park, NY where the first Bell Helicopter was built. This prototype evolved to become the Bell Model 47---the first helicopter to receive FAA Certification.
The Huey (UH-1, originally HU-1 [hence the "Huey" name]) helicopter is designed and built by the Bell Aircraft Corporation which is now called Bell Helicopter Textron.
John Bell had three jobs. He worked in government, was employed as an attorney, and owned a plantation. He worked in the House of Representatives during the period of 1827 to 1841.
The inventor of the Huey helicopter is Connor Lucas, who first introduced the idea to Bell Helicopter company; a company of which still is very prosperous today.
