Dwight Eisenhower sent the first advisers to Vietnam. John F Kennedy sent the first US Green Berets to Vietnam.

We could've not have to worry about the Vietnam but the US signed a document saying that the US will help with war with communism without hesitation.

President Dwight Eisenhower, in the 1950s. Vietnam (formerly French Indo-China) was a Fench colony, so France sent the first 'western' troops there long before most Americans had heard of the area. Before that, various Asian peoples roamed the area.

Eisenhower and Kennedy sent military advisers who were not supposed to do any actual fighting. Johnson was the one who sent in large numbers of combat troops.
