During the Revolutionary War England had many generals. However, There are several who were instrumental.

Before the War started Governor Guy Carleton of Quebec was selling firearms to the Indians and instructing them to kill the frontiersmen on the western frontier. In 1774 in a pitched battle in Point Pleasant, Virginia, over 1,000 Indians were killed as they tried to launch a surprise attack on a fort. Point Pleasant is now a part of West Virginia.

General Gage was in Boston in the beginning during the early stages of the problems in New England. He made miscalculation after miscalculation.

General Howe then became the Commander of the entire war in America in theory. Reality did not work that way. His bosses in London would undercut him.

General Clinton Replaced Howe as commander of the Forces in America in 1778.

In the South, General Cornwallis took over. He would surrender at Yorktown.

After Yorktown, Governor Guy Carlton replaced Clinton as Commander in Chief. Here was the one man that almost all Americans would join together and fight against and he was now in charge.
