The Crimean war took place in 1853 to 1856. The conflict was between Imperial Russia and an alliance of France, the United Kingdom, the kingdom of Sardinia, and the Ottoman Empire. Most of the war was fought on the Cremean Peninsula, now a part of the Ukraine. Battles took place near the Alma River, Kadikoi (Battle of Balaclava), Sevastopol (Battle of Chernaya River), Eupatoria, Inkerman, Petropavlovsk, Taganrog, the Kinburn Peninsula, Kurekdere, Malakoff, Sevastopol, and the last major battle at Kars.
It was fought largely in the Crimea, Ukraine, near the Black Sea.

The joint Turkish (Ottoman), British, French and Sardinian forces won the Crimean War, the war ended around the fall of Sevastopol, which was a long standing fortified city throughout the war. Officially the war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris that ensured, for the time being at least, that Russia would not threaten the Ottoman empire again. The war lasted from 1853 to 1856. The war was also considered to be a Pyrrhic victory.
