The Siege of Vicksburg occurred from May 18 to July 4, 1863, during the American Civil War. Union forces, led by General Ulysses S. Grant, encircled the city, which was a strategic Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River. After weeks of bombardment and deprivation, the Confederate forces, commanded by General John C. Pemberton, surrendered, giving the Union control of the Mississippi River and a significant advantage in the war.
In order to liberate the Mississippi. Vicksburg was the last major enemy garrison on the river.

Lieutenant General John C Pemberton commanded the Confederate Army of Mississippi at Vicksburg. Major General Ulysses Grant led the Federal Army of the Tennessee.

Well before General US Grant began to get serious about Vicksburg, the Union sent forty gunboats to bombard Vicksburg on July 12, 1862. After two weeks of cannon fire, Vicksburg remained in Confederate hands. At the time General Van Dorn commanded Vicksburg and he sent the ironclad, the Arkansas to disperse the Union flotilla on July 27, 1862.
The Confederate General commanding the Vicksburg garrison was John C. Pemberton, supervised by his area commander Joseph E. Johnston. The Union force was commanded by Ulysses S. Grant.
There was no Siege of Pittsburgh in the Civil War, and Lee was not present at Pittsburgh Landing, Tennessee, also known as Shiloh.
There were no Italian generals at Vicksburg.
General Ulysses S. Grant was a general for the north during the Battle of Vicksburg. Lt. General John C. Pemberton was the general for the south during the Battle of Vicksburg.
