The Union won, by killing Confederate soldiers, occupying Confederate land, blockading Confederate ports, and making slavery illegal in the United States of America, which meant that Britain and France could not morally support the Confederate States of America in order to get cotton from the CSA. The Union also lost a lot of men fighting the Civil War between the States. The Union had more factories, industries, manpower, ships, and railroads than the South. The Union had a strong Federal Government under President Abraham Lincoln. The South had a weak Federal Government under President Jefferson Davis. It was very difficult for Davis to order states to do anything, since the CSA was for strong state rights, and a weak Federal Government.
After four years of bloody wars between the Union and the Confederacy, the Southern general in chief, Robert E. Lee surrendered his army at the Appomattox courthouse in Virginia. Practically speaking this unofficially ended the war with the Union being victorious. This was on April 9, 1865. In some areas however, more fighting continued, but it was of little consequence, except for unnecessary battle deaths.
On one side was the Confederate States of America - eleven Southern states which had broken away from the USA on the issue of the extension of slavery.
On the other side was the diminished USA itself, under the newly-elected Lincoln, and known as the North or the Union.
Although almost everyone expected it to be a short war, it lasted four years, and ended only because the North, with its bigger population, literally wore down Southern manpower till it was exhausted.

I don't think there was an owner. Do you by any chance mean winner of the first battle in the civil war? If so that would be South Carolina at the battle for Fort Sumter at Charleston South Carolina.

It would depend on which civil war you are referring to.
