Air planes and bombs
Until the bombs started falling.
During World War II, the Luftwaffe, the German Air Force, dropped various types of bombs on their targets. These included high-explosive bombs, incendiary bombs, fragmentation bombs, and bunker buster bombs. Each type of bomb served a different purpose, whether it was to cause damage and destruction, start fires, or penetrate fortified structures.
Planes during WW1 were used as surveillance and if they wanted to drop bombs the pilot had to physically pick up a bomb and drop it. In WW2 they were used for air to air combat and could actually mechanically drop bombs.
One still survives, he lives in woodford and goes about the name of yam

The combat in the air gained bombs and machine guns on the planes.
The bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were atomic bombs and not nuclear bombs and were designed to explode above the ground and not on impact.
Usually machine guns and air to air missiles. Sometimes they might also carry air to surface missiles or bombs. Some (e.g. F-14, F/A-18) can carry nuclear bombs.
