The British Empire wanted to expand their North American territory to the Ohio valley, which was controlled by French. To pay for the war effort, they taxed the Colonist. Once the British empire had conquered the Ohio valley, Parliament made expansion over the Appalachian mountain against the law. However, Great Britain still had war debt and so taxation continued.

taxes were everything! one of the main reasons colonists revolted was because taxes were way to high. They were angry at king george for raising tax on specifically tea, which led to the Boston tea party, then the battles of Lexington and Concord(which are two seperate battles) and it led ot the revolution, so taxes were critical and very significant to the american revolution.= )
