As warned by Albert Einstein in a letter to President Roosevelt, America needed to pump up its efforts to develop nuclear technology against the tough competition provided by Germany. Einstein had warned Roosevelt of nuclear energy's potential to create a powerful new bomb, and that potential was promptly harnessed, creating 2 atomic bombs and wiping out both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Therefore, I suppose you could say that the Manhattan project began for the purpose of ending WWII.

Albert Einstein was a German, Jewish scientist escaping Europe during WWII. When he arrived in the U.S. he informed the government that the Germans were researching how to constuct an atomic bomb. The U.S. started the Manhattan Project, headed by J. Robert Oppenheimer, to do the same thing. The atomic bomb was originally built to be used on the Germans, but by the time it was finished the war with Germany was over, so the bomb was used on Japan to end that war instead.

To what extent did the economic revolution in America before the Civil War change the nation socially and culturally?

due to the introduction of the cotton gin to the united states, specifically in the southern region. Both areas of the united stated started to become equally industrialized. However, at this point in time, the north was still exponentially more industrialized than the southern regions of the states. the south did begin to move more towards machine labor saving devices, even though they still empoyed massive slae labor. also at this time thre were still no cotton mills etalished in the southern part of the states, so the south had to rely on the norths processing power in order to make any money off there cotton crops.
