His name is one of the most recognised in history - demonstrated by the fact that even without a first name in the question, everyone assumes it refers to Adolf Hitler.

He managed to gain absolute control of an entire country and maintain it for over a decade. He began a chain of events that changed the world, and the war he started had a profound effect on many areas of peacetime life. For that, he may called awesome.

Hitler was awesome in a way. He was a strong leader, but he was insane and that should not be ignored.

It was because he - almost single-handedly - turned Europe around and brought it to its knees. How could one man have caused so much pain and grief? Over 6 million Jews where killed! So the man was an enigma... How could he achieve all that mayhem?

speaking as a Jew and someone who is anti-Hitler, i wouldn't say that Hitler was "cool" but he was undoubtedly a very charismatic leader. Germany at the time of Hitler's rise to power had been hit by ENORMOUS inflation rates and had been treated unfairly in the Treaty of Versailles and by the Allied powers. although you can say that Germany was At Fault for causing WW1, the Treaty acted as though they had come out of the war unscathed, which was completely untrue.

So imagine you are a German at this time and you have Hitler, an amazing speaker, telling you that things can change and that he KNOWS how to change things. he finds scapegoats and uses them to their utmost, but thats what the people want to hear. he was able to take advantage of a country that had been ripped apart and he made the most of it and capitalized on its issues

so while he wasn't cool in the least, he was shrewd

he knew what the people wanted to hear and he said it

that and the fact that he was seemingly viceless made him the dream of the german people
