Why should Germany be blamed for ww1?

1. In WW1 some German nationalists said that Germany has been maliciously attacked by France, Russia and Britain. 2. In the interwar period German nationalists said that in November 1918 Germany had been 'stabbed in the back'. Bleating and accepting responsibility don't go to together. In the Versailles peace treaty the war guilt clause is at the head of the chapter about reparations.

There were blame to go around for this war. It was Germany who paid the penalty for trying to act like a conqueror with a build up of arms, shutting down diplomacy when that route was open, and threatening their neighbors. The reason the United States became involved in the war was when Germany were sinking the American trading ships. The German generals thought it would be a cake walk in taking out Russia and France and end the war early. However, this short war took a long time. The one nation who wanted Germany to be punished severely, as they were, was France for their invasion into France. Many historians believe it was German build up of its naval war ships trying to equal England that led to this war. That period of build up was called the Anglo-German naval race. Remember the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary by Serbian terrorists? It is only an afterthought for it only led to high tensions between the German Empire and its allies; The Ottoman Empire (now Turkey) and Austria-Hungary versus Britain, France, Russia, and even Japan (they had a pact with the Russians though they did not send any troops). As I stated earlier, The United States came into it when the German Empire were destroying American trade ships.
