I am no expert, but I believe part of the problem was that the people at home became disillusioned and impatient with the Vietnam War and the media focused on that and may actually have helped to build the discontent and insistentence that our troops be brought home. History is repeating itself today with the war in Iraq.

We could not invade North Vietnam without risking intervention by Red China or the Soviet Union (as happened in the Korean War 1950-1953). We couldn't use atomic weapons with out risking the same results. We could not isolate the flow of enemy men & material into South Vietnam, as we had successfully done in the Korean War (because Korea was on a Peninsula.

It wasn't any harder than any other wars prior to Vietnam. With one exception, the helicopter. The "Chopper" didn't allow for any rest between fights. A man could end up fighting two or three battles in two or three days (a different battle each day), because the bird could pick him up & drop him off into another fight; when he hasn't rested from the one he just left. That could be pretty exhausting.

Couldn't isolate the infiltration of men and material into South Vietnam, without expanding the war into neutral countries; which may have caused a confrontation with the communist superpowers; as DID happen in Korea.

Because the Vietcong were dressed like civilians. The US. Soldiers didn't know who their next enemy was because of the way they were dressed.
