Because back in those days most wars lasted a few months and were between 2 countries and had a Death Rate of about 100 thousand at the most. This war had over 6 million deaths with an incredible duration of 4 years. Once the war was ended, people swore never to start a war again after the tragedy caused by World War 1. [France was left in shambles, Germany went bank rupt and lost 90% of its army and most of its defence systems due to the treaty of versailles]
Technically, It is called the War to End all Wars. BUT, the Treaty of Versailles made Germany force many payments and demiliterize the whole German army. This left many German people in poverty because of over inflation. However, in 1933, Adolf Hitler started gaining power in the Nazi party. Secretly, he started rebuilidng the German army to it's former size. This caused outrage in the rest of the countrys thus started World War II. People now believe the Treaty of Versailles is nothing more than a 20 year amistance
