Most likely due to the fact that there were many people in the United States at that time who favored neutrality. That telegraph was just a tipping point to throw us into the war. Many actually think that the telegraph was a fake due to the fact that there were many people in congress who actually wanted to go to war instead of staying neutral. this was mostly due to the fact that the war was ending and it was clearly in the allied forces favor and the U.S wanted to mop up the Germans and be the hero and possible get land in the deal.
During World War I, Switzerland, Spain, and the Scandinavian nations remained totally neutral.
The Zimmerman telegram, (which the British intercepted and gave to the USA), in which Germany tried to get Mexico to declare war on the USA. Also the German submarines were sinking unarmed civilian ships sailing from neutral countries.
The United States remained neutral in the beginning of WW2 as they did at the beginning of WW1.
Zimmerman Telegram, sinking of the Lucitania, and German aggression. There were two primary reasons that the United States entered into World War I: The Sinking of the Lusitania, and the intercepted Zimmerman telegram. Let's start at the sinking of the Lusitania. It was carrying 128 Americans onboard, despite German threats of sinking any ship that came into their waters. In fact, they actually took out a full page ad in an American news paper and warned the United States to not board the Lusitania. In 1917, Germany warned the entire world of submarine warfare. Next, the Zimmerman telegram was intercepted by the United States. It detailed a plan to keep America neutral, but offered an alternative should this not prove to be the case--making a deal with Mexico to help them regain lost territory to the United States. This scared Americans to death and with their fear came their demands for war. Thus, America enters the war (near the very end, mind you), and tips the scale of the stalemate. If I had to choose which one was more prominent, I'd have to say the Zimmerman telegram. Hope this helps, Alex
Switzerland remained neutral through both world wars.
to remain neutral. however the us entered after the zimmerman telegram
There were many events that took place that lead to the US declaring war on Germany. These events include the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915 and the telegram that Zimmerman sent to Mexico by Germany in 1917.

No. It was actually a neutral country. It actually remained neutral.
Switzerland remained neutral because it was largely inaccessible - very difficult to attack and occupy. Netherlands and Belgium remained neutral for the opposite reason - they were too accessible from either side.
Switzerland is a neutral country. We should paint the room a neutral colour. He remained neutral throughout the debate.
