Oh, isn't that a lovely question! The New England states have a rich history of farming, with their fertile soil and moderate climate providing ideal conditions for certain crops like apples, cranberries, and dairy products. While the rocky terrain presented some challenges, the hardworking farmers in this region have always found ways to cultivate the land and create beautiful, bountiful harvests.

Why was agriculture so important in the South?

Because the climate was ideal for farming. Also soil was usually overflowing with vitamins and nutrients, which was good for growing vegetables, cotton, and tobacco.

How were middle colonies different from the new England colonies?

The biggest difference between the two regions is the soil composure. In New England you had a much rockier soil composure while in the Middle Colonies you had a much softer, fertile soil composure. Because of this farming in the New England colonies was very hard. Also becasue of the difference in soil composure there are different kinds of forests. In New England you have many more coniferous forests, because of the colder weather patterns and harder soil composition, in the Middle states forest are dominated by deciduos trees, or trees that loose their leaves in autumn. The climate in the New England colonies is much harsher also leading to short planting seasons for the Pilgrims. It was not an ideal location for a settlement -- the Pilgrims were actually shooting for Virginia, but a storm threw them off path and they ended up in what is today Provincetown, Cape Cod, MA

What are some reasons for the cotton boom?

Cotton was a prized crop in the American colonies and later in the United States. There was a worldwide demand for this crop and it was used to make all types of clothing. The US Southern climate was ideal for growing cotton and much of it was purchased by the Northern industrial US States and in England. The demand seemed to have no limits. When the cotton gin was invented in allowed for an easier way to remove seeds from cotton. More cotton was produced and sold worldwide as its demand seemed never to cease. With that said, cotton became a boom crop because of the demand of it in textile mills in the US and in Europe.

Differences between real and ideal culture?

Ideal culture is how people wish society would be, versus real culture, which is the reality of what culture actually is. An example of this would be the cultural ideal of magazines and society uplifting women and explaining that all body types are normal and beautiful. This can be contrasted with the real culture of body shaming and lifting very thin bodies up as the ideal beauty, to the exclusion of all other body types.
