Onate believed that Spanish rule of native Americans would bring them peace, justice, salvation, orderliness and protection.
During the wars of conquest in the 16th century, the Spanish eradicated many of the Central American natives through warfare, and even more through the spread of European diseases. Those that were left were highly mistreated and used as slave labor, or paid very little. Through centuries of Spanish rule, the natives and the Spanish co-mingled and had children together. Spanish/native mixes are called "Mestizos", which most Central Americans are today. But there are still pure Native and pure Spanish blood around today.
Bartolome de las Casa was a Dominican friar and social reformer who fought for the rights of Native Americans under Spanish rule. He went before Charles V, the Holy Roman Emperor to plead against slavery in the colonies. Ironically, his compassion was only for the Native slaves, and he was in part responsible for the transatlantic slave trade.

The life for the Native Americans under the Spanish rule was that the Native Americans were forced to drop their culture and join the Christianity the Spanish had, but if they had refused they would either be held as slaves or they would die.

The Spanish intented to destroy their culture due to christnianisation. The Mayans were enslaved and abused. There were a few rebelions under the Spanish rule. Some Mayans left bigger aglomeration and settled on the countryside. Overall many Mayans live till today.
the spanish had a affected the way the natives live and work. they torured them till they did what the spainards wanted in a history text book if you think im wrong!!! they enslaved them......as above
The Native Americans didn't live under authoritarian rule.
Native Americans did not like being made into slaves. Despite the ruling that Native Americans were under no obligation to "the church" this religious order imposed its rule upon them by force, and once they threatened them with death and or torture, they confiscated their lands and enslaved them "in the name of God." For some reason people don't like such things happening to them and this lead to problems between them.
No. they had their own rule of governence...

The Spanish treated the native Americans badly so they might have been mean to them. i really don't know. Another person who believes what Hollywood, and the Jews tell him, no, the Spanish conquest was made on the behalf of the Catholic religion, and the Catholic religion forbid slavery, not like the USA, who disappeared the Indian population, Cortes respected the native population, he took as a wife an aristocrat called malinali, and had children with her, the Spanish did not mistreat the Indian in general their were abuses, but most viceroys punished that conduct, while the Americans killed all the Indian people they could, as well as they brought blacks to do the dirty work. Shame on the USA.
