The previous answer said they usually went to war. It cited no evidence of any kind. The fact is, whoever wrote the answer either 1) Hadn't the faintest clue of what they were talking about, or 2) were incredibly lazy. I'm guessing both. I suggest, that someone with a real background in this subject answer the question.

My personal sense, from what little I know, and from talking to a few native friends, is that war was generally NOT the first option.

If I am able to do enough research, I will come back and try to objectively answer this question. Other than that, I suggest interested people look somewhere else other than this terribly informal site.

some people didnt want to go to war, so they decided to trade or give things as an appology or something like that...

This depends on the tribe and the type of conflict, for examples:

When Geronimo disagreed with his tribal leaders about its dealings with the USA, he left the tribe taking with him many members of other tribes and formed a new tribe. This new tribe then started (or continued) a war with the USA. (Per US Federal Court findings).

When a few minor tribal leaders of the Cherokee signed the Treaty of New Echota, the other tribal members (pursuant to Cherokee Law) killed them for violating their position of authority and trust.

When the Cherokee had conflict between tribal factions, or other tribes, they would play a game of Lacrosse to determine the conflict (in some cases).

When a man talked of taking advantage of a woman without marriage, either with or without her permission, some tribes allowed a family member (or another in place of such) to kill the man. While men and women enjoyed sexual freedom, to some point, it was also not something that you talked about (much less bragged about).

Please note that these are just a few examples, and traditions varied greatly dependent on the tribe.
